Superzooms with RAW are a sub-segment of the superzoom market that is getting an uptick in new models, with even Canon embracing RAW for superzooms. Here is a new review of the Fuji HS50-EXR at Pocket Lint. The HS50-EXR has a 1/2″ sensor, in-between the more common 1/1.7-8″ and 1/2.3x” sizes found in most of today’s fixed lens digital cameras.
For the purposes of this blog, we group all the 1/2.x” cameras together under the 1/2.x” sensor size, so it includes the 1/2″ and 1/2.3″ and 1/2.5″. Likewise, we group the 1/1.x” cameras together under the 1/1.x” sensor size, which includes 1/1.6″, 1/1.7″, 1/1.8″ etc.
Please note, this is not a fraction but a sensor size notation, so the 1-inch sensor size is not what standard math would encourage us to think, 1/1″. For a refresher, check these two articles on sensor sizes at dpreview Articles and dpreview Glossary.
